[Fengzhen City's Ferroalloy Enterprises Lead the "Breakthrough Path" Through Technological Innovation] Recently, the 36,000-kilovolt safe and sealed DC ore-heating furnace for manganese-silicon alloy, built by Inner Mongolia Jinglei Industrial Co., Ltd. in Fengzhen City, was identified by the Metallurgical Industry Information Standards Research Institute as the first of its kind globally. This marks a new achievement in the "high-intelligence and green" development of the ferroalloy industry in Ulanqab and represents a new breakthrough in advancing the technological "breakthrough" project.

Recently, the Metallurgical Industry Information Standards Research Institute identified the world's first 36,000 kV safe and sealed manganese-silicon alloy DC submerged arc furnace, built by Inner Mongolia Jinglei Industrial Co., Ltd. in Fengzhen City. This marks a new achievement in the "intelligent and green" development of the ferroalloy industry in Ulanqab and a breakthrough in advancing the "technological breakthrough" initiative.

"Increase the raw material delivery speed," "Monitor the furnace temperature and prepare for fine-tuning..." In the DC furnace control room of Inner Mongolia Jinglei Industrial Co., Ltd., several staff members sat in front of the control console, closely monitoring the furnace's operation on the screens while issuing adjustment instructions via walkie-talkies.

"After the technological upgrade, the company is expected to export 15,000 mt of manganese-silicon alloy this year. Compared to the production using AC furnaces in the past, the DC furnace saves about 15% of electricity per mt of alloy, reduces electricity consumption by 300 to over 400 kWh per mt of alloy, improves recovery rates by 3% to 5%, lowers coke consumption by 20 to 40 kg, and cuts costs by 200 to 300 yuan per mt," said Du Huayu, General Manager of Inner Mongolia Jinglei Industrial Co., Ltd. He added that this technology not only reduces costs but also simplifies operations, better supports new energy peak shaving, and enhances the company's international competitiveness.

Meanwhile, Jitie Ferroalloy Co., Ltd. has also demonstrated strong capabilities in technological innovation. Inside Jitie Ferroalloy Co., Ltd., workers sit comfortably in the central control room, skillfully operating joysticks below the computer screens to remotely control robots working in front of the furnaces. The plant area is clean and orderly, with neatly arranged equipment and a strong sense of technological sophistication.

Liu Wei, Deputy General Manager of the company, introduced that significant achievements have been made in technological innovation. This year, the company is expected to release 10 national and industry standards led by the company and plans to apply for 5 patents. Additionally, the company is collaborating with more than a dozen research institutes, including the Metallurgical Standards Research Institute of the University of Science and Technology Beijing, to carry out one national-level scientific research project and three autonomous region-level scientific research projects.

Wang Xiaofang, Director of the Fengzhen City Science and Technology Development Center, said, "Building on last year's layout of four points and six breakthrough directions, the Fengzhen City science and technology department is deploying innovation chains along the industry chain. This year, it is expected to launch five key technology research projects to strengthen breakthroughs in advantageous and specialized industries and key areas, providing strong technological support for the city's industrial transformation, upgrading, and high-quality development."

[SMM Steel] Tata Steel partners with Hindustan Zinc for sustainable steel manufacturing
[SMM Steel] Tata Steel and Hindustan Zinc (HZL) announced a partnership on March 23, 2026, to integrate EcoZen, a low-carbon zinc solution, into steel production. Produced using renewable energy, EcoZen has a carbon footprint below 1 tonne of CO₂e per tonne of zinc—75% lower than the industry average. Tata Steel will initially deploy this "green zinc" at its Sahibabad plant for galvanizing processes, aiming to reduce Scope 3 emissions and strengthen its sustainable supply chain across the automotive and infrastructure sectors.
